The Big U Gets a Last Minute Reprieve



The famed S.S. United States got a last minute reprieve from certain death at the scrap yard when a consortium of preservationists scraped together enough money to buy her outright and cover her $60,000 per month berthing costs. See the full story here.

It's sad to see one of America's greatest technological achievements in such a desperate state. Sadder still to think her only value is as a hotel or condominium. This 60 year old vessel continues to hold the trans-Atlantic speed record.
